The battle for Earth begins at sea in this epic action-adventure starring Liam Neeson, Taylor Kitsch, Rihanna, Alexander Skarsgård and Brooklyn Decker. An international naval coalition becomes the world's last hope for survival as they engage a hostile alien force of unimaginable strength. Ripping across sea, sky and land, Battleship is "a big bold blast" (MSN Movies), packed with spectacular visual effects and explosive action.

Any '80s children out there still experience nostalgia at the phrase, "You have sunk my battleship?"
Get ready to take another trip down memory lane: Empire reports that Universal is in talks with Peter Berg (Hancock) to direct a movie version of the popular board game Battleship. Not familiar? Check out this online version. Or watch the game's first (and most likely only) appearance in a movie, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.
Clue (1985) was probably the only movie ever based on a board game. That's about to change ... big time. Universal's also working on adaptations of Candy Land, with Kevin Lima directing; Monopoly, from Ridley Scott; and Ouija Board, from Michael Bay's production company, Platinum Dunes.
We've got some ideas to add to the mix. How about Uno? Stratego? All right ... Minesweeper? Solitaire? How about a rousing action-movie version of Sudoku?
Crazy you say? Maybe, but did you think there'd be a movie of Battleship?
A couple moves have occurred on the great chessboard that is the upcoming movie schedule. First off, Dimension and the Weinstein Company have decided to move up director Alexandre Aja's Piranha 3-D from August 27 to August 20, shifting it away from horror competitor The Last Exorcism.
Piranha 3-D, a remake of Joe Dante's 1978 original (which was, to put it politely, a "remake" of 1975's Jaws), follows a sleepy lakeside town whose Spring Break suffers a small setback when an underwater tremor unleashes a horde of prehistoric, man-eating fish. Elisabeth Shue and Ving Rhames play local law enforcement tasked with destroying the menace, while Christopher Lloyd will finally get his chance to play a nutty scientist. Richard Dreyfuss and Jerry O'Connell also star.
Directed by Peter Berg (The Kingdom, Hancock). Skarsgard will star as a "straight arrow" naval officer alongside Taylor Kitsch, who was cast a few months back and is currently filming John Carter of Mars in the red rock desert of Utah. Battleship will be Skarsgard's first major starring role, although you may remember that he was one of the early front-runners for Marvel's comic book movie Thor--losing out in the end to Chris Hemsworth.
THR reports that Liam Neeson is the latest actor to join Universal's adaptation of the Milton-Bradley board game, Battleship. Directed by Peter Berg (The Kingdom) Battleship will concern an international naval fleet that is tasked with confronting an alien invasion. Such a plot seems far afield from the board game where random combinations of letters and numbers help to blindly sink an opponents piece.
Anyone who knows anything about James Cameron knows the acclaimed director of two of the biggest movies of all time, Titanic and Avatar, is anything but shy about his opinions when it comes to the craft he has mastered. Cameron has been highly critical of the 3-D conversion process—versus shooting a movie in 3-D the way Avatar was—and targeted last year's Piranha 3-D as an example of what is wrong with the process, saying that "it just cheapens the medium."
In his latest attack on the movie industry, Cameron targeted the lack of original ideas in Hollywood, setting his sites on director Peter Berg's Battleship, a live-action adaptation of the Milton-Bradley board game, in an interview with German site Spiegel (as translated by WorstPreviews).
