Halloween R

From acclaimed musician and filmmaker Rob Zombie (The Devil's Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses) comes an entirely new take on the highly successful and terrifying Halloween legacy that began in 1978. While revealing a new chapter in the established Michael Myers saga, the film will surprise both classic and modern horror fans with a departure from prior films in the Halloween franchise. Audiences should brace themselves for unprecedented fear as Zombie turns back time to uncover the making of a pathologically disturbed, even cursed child, named Michael Myers.

...isn?t so much a horror film as a biopic, and a superb one at that. The life and times of a fictional monster may not be as respectable a subject as a historical monster like, say, Idi Amin or Truman Capote, but Zombie?s portrait is every bit as reverent, scrupulous, and deeply felt as any Oscar-grubbing horrorshow.

...Zombie delivers a scary horror movie immediately recognizable as his own -- something that will come as a welcome relief to fans who've diligently sat through seven Halloween sequels in hopes of one day reliving the original's terrifying magic.

That one can rationalize Zombie's decision to focus his redo -- well, the first half anyway -- on Myers's upbringing doesn't, however, mean that such a strategy is wise, or that it works.

Instead of trampling over the original, he [Zombie] builds on it and creates an homage that should motivate the new generation of horror fans to seek out John Carpenter's original with the respect and excitement it still deserves.

This latest unsuccessful stab at Carpenter's masterwork just proves that the original Halloween is as unbeatable as its masked leading man.

...Zombie's stylistic touches and graphic treatment of the murders just aren't enough to keep your interest in a story that's been told at least four times too many already. Expect this Labor Day weekend release to be on its way to your local Blockbuster by October 31!

Sadly, writer-director Rob Zombie decided to come up with his own plans, revealing himself to be no great architect in the process.

Feeling Ripped-Off at the Movies Lately?

Posted on 2007-08-30 by reelz

Well then let this handy rant guide steer you clear of the dog days of summer. The movies at your local theater may suck, but the better choices are out there. You just have to look a little harder for them.

Don't let Mr. Bean take you for a ride! That's a Death SentenceHalloween doesn't come in August. Your brother Jim is funnier than the Brothers Solomon. The only Fury you'll feel from these Balls is the one brought on by your lighter wallet. The Invasion came and no one noticed. It's less of a War and more of a snore.

Bring on the Dog Days of the movie season!

Despite poor critical reviews (currently 23% on Rotten Tomatoes) and mediocre responses from fans, Rob Zombie's Halloween scored at the box office this labor day weekend, taking in $31 million over the 4-day weekend.

Those Superbad boys held strong in second place with $15.6 over the long weekend, bringing their three week total to an impressive $92.4 million.

The critically maligned Balls of Fury opened to $13.8 million which the weekend's other bow, Death Sentence, took in just $5.2 million.
